A Little Indulgence in Burnaby: Why I Keep Going Back to Chillax

Sometimes celebrating everyday means intentionally making time for yourself.

At Busybee Creates, we talk a lot about celebrating life's milestones—the birthdays, graduations, accomplishments and special occasions. But Celebrate Everyday also means noticing the smaller moments and choosing, intentionally, to make an ordinary day feel a little more special.

A quiet coffee. Supporting a neighbourhood business. Taking an afternoon off. Or finally booking that massage you've been putting off.

That's what led me to this week's Celebrate Local find: Chillax in Burnaby.

It Started With a Head Spa

My first visit to Chillax was for a head spa and massage.

I went in expecting a relaxing treatment. I left thinking, I definitely want to do that again.

I was hooked.

Part of it was the treatment, but I also really loved the environment. Chillax has created a space that feels like you're treating yourself from the moment you arrive—not simply checking in for another appointment.

Even the Waiting Feels Like Part of the Experience

One of my favourite things about Chillax is actually the waiting area.

It's a beautiful, inviting space where you can sit for a few minutes and start unwinding before your treatment begins.

There are also products you can browse while you're waiting, which is such a nice little detail. Instead of sitting there watching the clock, I find myself looking around and enjoying the space.

And sometimes that's all it takes to change the feeling of an ordinary appointment.

You're not rushing in and rushing out.

You're giving yourself permission to slow down for a little while.

Turning My RMT Appointment Into a Little Indulgence

After that first experience, another reason I loved returning was discovering that Chillax also offers Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) alongside its spa and wellness treatments.

For me, that's such a great combination.

If I'm going to book an RMT appointment anyway, I love being able to do it somewhere that makes the experience feel like a small indulgence.

It's practical—but it still feels special.

If you're planning to use extended health benefits, make sure you're specifically booking an eligible RMT service, since not every massage offered at a spa is necessarily performed by an RMT or eligible for reimbursement. It's always worth checking your own benefit plan as well.

Celebrating Everyday—Intentionally

This is really why Chillax belongs on the Busybee Creates blog.

Our idea of Celebrate Everyday has never meant that every day needs a party.

Quite the opposite.

It's about being more intentional about noticing—and sometimes creating—the little moments that bring us joy.

Maybe it's:

  • taking yourself for coffee instead of drinking it on the run,
  • buying flowers just because,
  • meeting a friend you've been meaning to see,
  • supporting a local business you've discovered,
  • taking the long way home on a beautiful day,
  • or turning an RMT appointment into an hour that genuinely feels like it's for you.

Those moments might seem small.

But when life gets busy, they're often the ones we forget to make room for.

Celebrating everyday can simply mean choosing not to rush through all of it.

A Burnaby Local Find Worth Knowing

That's also the intention behind our Celebrate Local series.

Busybee Creates is a small local business too, so we know how much it means when someone discovers your little corner of the community, tells a friend, shares your work or simply walks through your door.

Through Celebrate Local, we want to share some of the cafés, shops, experiences and small businesses we genuinely enjoy around Burnaby and Metro Vancouver.

Not because everything needs to become an advertisement.

But because our community is part of the everyday life we're trying to celebrate.

And Chillax has become one of those places for me.
